Feminine sewing patterns, made for the way you live
I started Carla Isabela Patterns for a simple reason: I could never find clothes that fit. Something always fit my hips but not my waist, or my shoulders but not the sleeve, or it was lovely except for one ruffle I’d have removed if I could. So I learned to make the patterns myself — feminine sewing patterns for the kind of clothes I actually wanted to wear, and the body I actually have.
How it started
I didn’t set out to do this. I trained for a different path entirely — a science degree, a plan to go into medicine — and slowly realized I felt nothing for it. Sewing was the opposite. It was the one thing I looked forward to every day, the place where being particular about details felt like a gift instead of a problem. So I pivoted. I haven’t missed the lab once since.
The clothes I’m drawn to are modest, clean, and quietly elegant — dresses, skirts, flowy tops, the small details that make a garment feel considered. Pin tucks. Pleats. A bit of lace where it earns its place. Nothing fussy, nothing excessive. Every detail should be there for a reason.
What goes into every pattern
Three things matter to me more than anything else, and they show up in every pattern I draft.
A fit made for real bodies. Ready-to-wear is built for an average that almost no one actually is. My patterns are designed to flatter where it counts and adjust where it should — elastic, ties, shirring, drawstrings — so the garment meets you, instead of asking you to meet it.
Natural fibers, on purpose. I design to be sewn in cotton, linen, and other natural fibers rather than cheap synthetics. They breathe, they age well, and they simply feel better against your skin. Once you’ve worn a cotton poplin you pressed yourself, the difference is hard to unlearn.
An inside as beautiful as the outside. No raw edges, and where I do serge a seam, it’s because that finish belongs there — not because it was the quick way out. The seams inside one of my garments are finished properly, because a thing made well is made well all the way through. You’re the only one who will see it — and that’s exactly why it matters.
What you’ll find here
Patterns, mostly — along with the occasional tutorial or note from the sewing table when I’ve learned something worth passing on. I’d rather teach you something true than sell you something loud. If you’ve ever held up a finished seam and felt a small, ridiculous pride in it, you’re in the right place.
My hope is simple: that you sew something that fits, that lasts, and that makes you feel beautiful and entirely comfortable at the same time. The kind of piece that makes you want to twirl, but that you can wear all day.
